The Premature Baby

Things to Help!

Preemies For Africa is The Voice of Premature Babies in Africa. We strive to provide a one stop service to all involved with premature birth, regardless the age of the infant or child. We strive not only to provide emotional support to the parents just after birth, but also help them during the growing up years when things are so different and there is so much questions such as: when must my baby start eating solids?

Our first group of preemies whose parents we supported are now going to school, so there is a wealth of information available from our moms and dads

We don't only provided emotional support, we also research products and suggest those we feel could benefit our parents. Parents of premature infants don't have access to the same amount of product as full term parents, therefore we aim to include as much information about everything that's available on the market and not only those we suggest for use.

Our ultimate is to be the "March of Dimes" for Africa.

Preemies for Africa Foundation was started in February 2002 by
Lavonne Prinsloo, with the idea of getting parents of premature babies to talk to one another via email.

Lavonne Prinsloo, her husband Danie with Simonč

Founder of Preemies for Africa

Preemies for Africa is a non-profit organization, duly Incorporated under Article 21 of the Companies Act, and relies on the support of donors and sponsors.

Being non-profit does not mean that you can not make a profit, it means you can not pay out any funds to the members of the company, except for reasonable remuneration.  As per Article 21 of the Companies Act, there must be a minimum of seven members in the company, which we like to call Shareholders even thou they don't have any shares.  People just understand the term shareholder better than "Member of the Company".

The Shareholders (Members of the Company) elect the Board of Directors each year at the AGM.  The Board of Directors oversee the day to day running of Preemies for Africa.

Since we have limited funds at the moment, most of our Directors are either employed by a 3rd party or self employed.  They offer their time and efforts on a non payment basis to Preemies for Africa.  It's however part of our vision to raise sufficient funds, to employee directors like the CEO, Marketing and Fundraising Director, Medical Director etc, on a permanent salary basis.

There is much work to be done ... see our Business Plan Synopsis ... and please contact us if you can help in any way!  Our new more detailed Business Plan will be available soon.
